Looking on how to findo ut any SCCA results from 1958-1962 in colorado or kansas to help make any connections to my car 504396. Already emailed kansas SCCA without any results. Anyone have any ideaas who to contact?
Each of these three cars was built and consigned to the USA too late to have made any 1958 history.
Each was badged as Zagato but were actually bodied in Torino by a company named M.E.C.A.T., which I am beginning to think was a company already existing but revived by Abarth to make these Double Bubble bodies and later, the "Sestriere".
.
Chassis 504396 was completed by MECAT during mid-October and returned to Abarth to have its engine fitted after the Abarth mods were completed. This timing coincides with the time period when Zagato ceased making any Double Bubble bodies during 1958. Note that there was a time period of just a few months during 1958 when Zagato was tapering off its DB production to focus on the Record Monza body production while MECAT was ramping up production of the Double Bubble bodies. The original color was "rosso vivo" and it was one of many that were consigned during January 1959 to "Roosevelt", presumably in New York but Hoffman had presences elsewhere as well. Not only San Francisco and Los Angeles. Some earlier history has been reported over the years by earlier owners of 504396 and I believe I have shared most of those notes already with Mike. I found a few more possibilities today while looking again at my files and through some SCCA member directories of 1960 and 1962.
Looking now once again at my "MASTER" study listing of Abarth Double Bubble (and other deriv. Fiat 600 examples), I see that Roosevelt took over the importation of Abarth cars on the East Coast from Hoffman. There is a clear changeover. Hoffman was the importer for most Eastern-USA destination Abarth cars during 1957 and into 1958 but Roosevelt took over the East Coast as the MECAT bodied Double Bubble examples began arriving during that year. Perhaps this was a coincidence?
Chassis 552387 was completed by MECAT in early February of 1959 and the color was Avorio (Ivory). It was consigned late February to "Salt Lake City". I have no other historical news collected about this car over the past 45 years of collecting data. I am hoping to learn more. I can almost certainly approximate its probable MECAT body trim number.
Chassis 696265 was completed by MECAT during October 1959 with "rubino chiaro" paint and was one of six Double Bubble cars consigned during November to a dealer named Parkinson in Southern California. Parkinson received many other batches as well.
Please note that consignment dates were essentially the billing dates and deliveries would have happenend (almost always?) following those dates. There is no point in searching for possible use hostory prior to a car's consignment date. In fact, one might think it logical to add a month in most cases?

I have #552387 old raced Lake Garnett and the midwest I have some old pitcher of cars at that time with numbers on them if you know want number your car raced under maybe I can help Phil Mag
Thanks so much for the offer. My chassis number is #504396. I only have one photo of my car being raced and there is number 21 on the driver side door. It appears to be in tape and slightly peeling off. As for your chassis number #552387 we don't have that number in our archive. We would love to see photos for it and add it to the archive. Please reach out via this email: mikeabarth750gtforum@hotmail.com have a great day
