looking for suggestions for the 850ss

We've finally got most of the exterior lighting working. There were quite a few missing wires and a lot of bad terminals to sort out, but it's great to finally see all the lights functioning again.

Now that the electrical work is mostly behind us, it's finally time to start tackling some routine maintenance. I have a few questions and would really appreciate any advice from those who have been down this road before.

1. Front brake pads

The car has an 850 front disc brake conversion, but the box of spare parts that came with the car includes a set of brake pads that don't seem to fit. Does anyone know what calipers are commonly used for these conversions, or what brake pads I should be looking for?

2. Tires

The car is currently running 13-inch wheels with 155/70R13 tires. They're more than 20 years old, so they'll definitely…

It sounds just like a racing engine—it's wonderful!

The stock tires and wheels for this car are 13-4.5J wheels (Fergat steel-aluminum hybrid or Campagnolo magnesium) paired with 135-330 Michelin X tires.

However, since those are extremely hard to find, I’ve opted for Campagnolo replica 13-5J wheels paired with 145/80R13 Michelin Energy-Saver4 tires. Since this is the most affordable option and offers just the right a

mount of grip, I think it’s the perfect choice for this car.

follow up and update of the newly aquried 850ss

So after a bit more time, we managed to restore some of the brakes in the car. The first half of the pedal feels very soft, but the second half actually has pretty strong braking power. I’m wondering if there’s anything that could fix that issue.

I’m also sharing some engine photos and would love to know a bit more about this particular setup. I also have photos of many of the spare parts that came with the car — if you have any information or knowledge about any of them, I’d really love to hear it.

Thanks!

Sid.

Once the brake pads wear down and bed in to the drum, I think the braking feel will become more solid.

The photo of the engine is interesting. The crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons look like they’ve been modified in some way. It would be nice to see a larger photo.👍

Introduction

Hi everyone, nice to meet you here. My name is Sid, and I’m the new owner of 850SS Record Monza z#66.

I’m very new to Abarth and Fiat ownership. Currently the car has no brakes at all, and none of the lights on the car are working either. We suspect the brake master cylinder may have seized after sitting for many years.

I’m looking for any information or resources related to the electrical system, lighting, and brake system for this car. Any manuals, wiring diagrams, parts references, or technical advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Well my last comment was WRONG! Seems to be happening more often as I near 80 (Sunday). The PBS at the rear is the late sump. The early one had a small PBS logo on the upper exhaust side.

Additional information on 1000 BA

I promised K. Oki that I would post more information on my 1000 BA -- his is the very nice red one pictured in this section. I'm hopeful that the photos of the previous owner's write-up of the car's history and some old Italian documents display clearly.

I’m really envious that such records have been preserved. Thinking about how a car has survived such a long history makes us feel even more attached to it.👍
